William Seth Adams, Benchmaker
When I was very young, a college dropout, I worked for several years for a hardware company, something on a smaller scale of the current large home improvement stores. There it was my happy good fortune to befriend the two men who worked in the lumber department, cutting lumber to order.
With their help, I began to build things, mostly bookcases. They would cut to order and I would assemble. Over the years that have passed, I have made a number of bookcases and other household items, useful, rudimentary things.
Perhaps 15 years ago, I began to make benches. Though refined in some ways, the benches I make now are very much the same bench as I started with, sturdy, colorful, durable goods.
The variations from bench to bench are primarily matters of color choices and combinations. These are choices my clients make. They design, I build, simple as that. Each bench is custom made.
