Janet King, Fiber Artist
I am a fiber artist specializing in handmade felt. I not only create garments, I create the fabric itself. I use super soft natural fibers from animals and luxurious silks laying them in almost sheer layers before putting cool water and olive oil soap on them. Then I massage the whole thing until it creates a unique piece of felt. I also enjoy mixing my felt with other mediums like stone, metal, light and wood. I create sculptural art, functional art, wall art and wearable art. My inspiration is in nature's lines, patterns and colors. My goal is to create art that others find beautiful to look at, easy to use and fun to wear. Enjoy!
After retiring, Janet began a process of fiber work in 2009 progressing through knit and crochet work to fulled knitting to needle felting and finally wet felting. She has earned numerous awards in juried shows in the Northwest and sells exclusively on Whidbey Island, Washington. She is a member of the international group Surface Design – Whidbey Chapter and is currently Vice-President of Whidbey Weavers Guild. Janet teaches, assists other visiting fiber artists and advises on the Fiber Arts program at the Pacific Northwest Art School as well.
