After 30 years of living in Alaska and visiting Whidbey Island, I’ve done a 180° and now live on Whidbey and visit Alaska. It was at the University of Alaska Southeast, as an adult, that I began studying drawing and painting.
Living in the Lower 48 allows me to indulge my fondness for road trips. Because of the constraints of a small studio on wheels, plus my desire to use fewer raw materials and still make art, I’ve begun to focus on small canvases, including
the small “canvas” of switch plates and electrical outlet covers. Paint, paper, fibers and found objects inspire my designs and allow me to play with color and texture, while making functional pieces that literally put art at one’s fingertips.
