Tammi Sloan, Jeweler
Hello! I am Tammi Sloan, the artist behind My Brown Wren. I have been creating art jewelry since 2008. My roots in northern New England give me a deep appreciation for nature. While enjoying all types of wildlife, I have a particular affinity for birds. I'm not really sure why. Maybe it's all the flying dreams I had as a kid. Maybe it's because, when I was seven or eight years old my great uncle used to sit with me on the floor by a window that overlooked his many bird houses and bird baths. We would spend, what felt like hours, talking about birds. It is there, on the floor of that little breakfast nook, that I drew my first bird.
The wren is the ultimate alchemist - building her nest in the unlikeliest of places, out of bits and scraps along the way. The spirit of the wren has taught me to look within myself to find creative inspiration and to be thankful for all that life has given me. After all, life is fuel for the creative fires!
Art expands our consciousness, it feeds the subconscious with tiny morsels or seeds that grow in ever expansive ways. As an artist, it is my job to feed you the way I know best, to create. As I grow, my work evolves. I enjoy the ability and desire to expand into new mediums, incorporating more of myself in the process. Glass, metal, beads and stones, wood, paint, fabric and found objects are the base ingredients in this evolution. Jewelry, painting and mixed media assemblage are the forms I choose to express the inner workings of my mind. Repetitive shapes and themes, like circles, flowers, houses and birds, influence a great deal of my work. As I work out the deeper meaning of this, I hope you enjoy their many expressions…
