Dallas Huth, Rapt Rocks and Waxed-linen Baskets

I have been a basket maker for many years and use these same
skills to create rattan designs around beach-collected rocks. I treat each one
with reverence, taking into consideration its shape, size, vibration and color
and weave rattan patterns to capture the rock’s unique quality and beauty.
My baskets are meditatively time-consuming, using waxed linen coiled around hemp cord. My poem best expresses my feeling about my baskets and rapt rocks: I weave a basket of forest green linen around a hemp cord. My fingers shape a small solid form. Just so my small pleasures – stones from beaches, put-up peaches, coiled calico cat, rolled socks, orange papaya, tight hugs, pockets of silence. |
