Jury Process
PROSPECTIVE ARTIST INFORMATION
Thank you for your interest in the Whidbey Art Gallery, an artist-owned gallery in Langley Washington. Our purpose is to provide artists with space to show and sell their artwork. The Gallery is open daily.
Participation in the Gallery can be as a Working Member (with voting rights), a Consignment Artist (non-member) or as a Guest Artist (for a month). Eligibility requirements include being a resident of the Puget Sound Area, satisfactory completion of an application, jurying and interview process, commitment to terms of Membership or Display as reflected in Gallery policies and by contract, and timely payment of fees and monthly dues. Work is not to be offered for display and sale in competing Galleries in the Langley city limits.
Artists are selected based on the needs of the Gallery including quality of artwork, type of medium and openings which may be for 2D or 3D pieces. The artwork needs to be unique from work already on display by existing artists. Sold items are subject to a percentage commission withheld by the Gallery. Items submitted for jurying and display are done so at the risk of the artist.
Working Members are expected to staff the Gallery, attend meetings as scheduled, handle sales and other tasks and/or serve on committees (such as scheduling, dues collection, jurying, display, training new members, marketing, tech support, building maintenance) and be willing to serve in leadership roles on the Gallery Council, which is the governing body of the Gallery. This participation may average at least 15-20 hours per month, including attendance at the Langley Monthly Art Walks—First Saturday, 5-7 pm.
If you wish to be considered by the Gallery, please contact the Jury Coordinator through our website: [email protected], or ask Gallery staff to refer you. You will be contacted and given an opportunity to ask further questions about the Gallery. If there is mutual interest, you will be sent an application to complete and return. If your artwork meets current Gallery needs, you will be contacted about further steps in the jurying process which includes review of your work and a subsequent interview (for Member and Consignment applicants). If accepted, you will be asked to sign a contract and return it with a photograph, business cards, biographical statement, a non-refundable starting fee (Working Members only), and initial dues. If you are joining as a Working Artist, you will be scheduled for Training. Once training is complete, display space will be assigned.
If there are no openings, your application may be kept in the Gallery’s files for future consideration.
Please contact our jury coordinator Doug Hansen at [email protected] with any questions
