Over the years, Stuart has refined his style and subject matter to three basic elements; Earth, Air and Water.
Sometimes the sky can be as dramatic and changeable as the ocean below it. Squalls, clouds and sunsets all play a role in Stuart’s paintings. The wild and active ocean is omnipresent, sometimes featured as a curling, snarling, spitting behemoth, sometimes as a mere suggestion of a horizon, an end to the sky. The use of acrylics gives the rapid response and sense of immediacy of an active and ever-changing seascape about which Stuart is passionate. Working over the canvas several times, Stuart strives to achieve the mood and feel of a set of a waves breaking, beckoning the viewer to join, or take shelter. |
