My name is Judi Nyerges.  I live on beautiful Whidbey Island on Saratoga Passage in Puget Sound in the Salish Sea in Washington State.  For almost 15 years I taught art at Rockford High School near Grand Rapids, Michigan.  In 2010 I retired, sold off everything, packed up the cats and moved lock, stock and barrel to my new home in Langley, ready to kick back and learn new things.

I moved to Whidbey Island in September of 2010.  I left behind Rockford High School Art classes, my clay “studio”, and my friends at the Beaver Island “art colony”.  I had no idea where I would find an “artistic home” again.  Before I left Michigan I had found and had been reading the website for the Whidbey Sketchers - a group of artists that meets often on Wednesdays in different places all over the Island to draw, sketch and paint whatever catches their eye.   My first artistic step into “art on Whidbey” was to join a quilting group, but the SECOND thing I did was to screw on my “courage hat” and to check into joining the Sketchers.  It may be the best thing I have ever done!!  I knew from the first that these artists were the “real deal” - painters, printmakers, commercial artists and designers -  and that I would be totally out of my league, but I figured what the heck -- “nothing ventured, nothing gained”.   I REALLY needed a place to get back into art again.  So I met up with them at Ebey bowl just before Thanksgiving and the rest is history.  Turns out that YES, they are incredible artists, every one of them.  But they are also fun, and supportive, and have welcomed me into their midst.   Through WISkers I have discovered  my way in art again.
